What happened to Yugoslavia during 1980 - 2000 by the West (US, UK, Germany and others) is called "geopolitical neutralization". Yugoslavia was not destroyed because it was failing — it was dismantled because it was succeeding too well outside Western control. The way how West did it is from the book of recipes - used in many places.
